Have you been saying your prayers?
A24 has done it again! Longlegs is a chilling and unsettling film reminiscent of films like The Silence of the Lambs and Zodiac. This occult, serial-killer film brings something back to the big screen that many have not seen in a while.

No One Is Safe
Longlegs started with a bang, not even within five minutes of the film. From that moment on, no one was safe. The film takes place during the Oregon winter in the 1990s, which adds to the bone-chilling feeling of this film. Longlegs takes you on a journey full of unpredictable plot twists and unsettling feelings, keeping you on your toes and constantly guessing what will happen next.
The film’s promotion sold it as entirely terrifying, but it’s far from that. The film has one or two jumpscares, but it should have been sold to the audience as unsettling because that’s what it is and in the best way. The film’s unsettling nature keeps you on edge, making it a good marketing technique for gaining buzz and popularity.
Chilling Performances
Nicolas Cage played the role of Longlegs. His portrayal of Longlegs was bone-chilling and creepy, making me uneasy whenever he was on screen. His delivery of lines, approach to silence and emoting sold the character to me. His moves and words were unpredictable. It was hard to tell that it was him playing someone so cold and awkwardly frightful. To put it short, Nicolas did a great job playing an occult serial killer, a performance that will leave you in awe.
Maika Monroe’s performance as the clichè, clairvoyant detective far exceeded my expectations. Lee Harker’s body language projected how tense and constantly on edge she was following the case, and her emoting projected her fear from the film into the audience’s minds. They told Maika to stay, but she heard “slay.” I would go broke if her performance as Lee Harker was for sale.
This unsettling and bone-chilling film is a must-watch for fans of thrillers and semi-horror films. This movie deserves a solid 8/10. Believe the hype and see the film for yourself. Longlegs is in theaters now.
