Transformers One is one of the year’s best animated films, but it just so happened to have one of the worst promotions.

Synopsis

Transformers One is the untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron before they dawned the legacy they have today. Orion Pax (Optimus Prime) and D-16 (Megatron), who were just your average energon miners, go on a journey through Cybertron that will change the fate of all living on the planet and their brotherly bond.

The Excellence That Is This Movie

Transformers One does an excellent job at seamlessly progressing the story where the average viewer would be on their toes. Of course, the average action fan and millennial knows how it ends because it’s essentially an origin story of beloved characters we grew up with. However, the characters’ arcs blend in well with the plot. Seeing the progression of Optimus Prime’s ascent into leadership, Megatron’s descent into being a mad ruler, and the changes in the lives of all Cybertronians makes it a great film.

Of course, some significant changes to the lore threw some Transformers fans off, but there was nothing too big of a change to make someone completely hate the movie.

The creativity of the planet and transformers’ designs are on a different level of brilliance. The animators did a phenomenal job making the planet come to life, from the surface to below. The designs of the Cybertronians have hints of a nostalgic boxy look while modernizing them and adding some blush. It’s giving [metal] baddie teas!

The film had a lot of comedic moments, but what can you expect when you have Michael Key voicing the iconic Bumblebee? Michael Key even threw in a couple of iconic jokes from his Key and Peele days and transformed it (pun intended) to fit Bumblebee’s origin. Transformers One brings out the comedian in everyone, even starting in the first five minutes of the movie with Orion Pax.

Bad Promotion

I hate that those in charge of promoting the movie did a pretty lousy job. They advertised a bad trailer everywhere and then fell off the face of the earth. Of course, people who are chronically online and suffer from social media brain rot (I’m also a victim) called the movie bad before giving it a chance and seeing it in theaters. Then, the small clips that surface are nowhere near pushing the film in a good light. Unfortunately, this happened, but I guess the real fans will make their way to the theater to see it.

What’s My Rating?

Transformers One is a fun film for everyone, not just kids. This action-packed, visually stunning, emotionally moving, and comedic movie is a must watch in my book. This movie deserves an 8/10 rating. Transformers One is in theaters now. I recommend checking it out in IMAX.

Signing off,

Michael
