Dorothy’s not a desk!

I just checked the forecast, and it says it’s raining blockbuster hits this summer! Twisters is a fun and thrill-seeking standalone sequel to the 1996 film Twister and proves that real cinema is back.

Film Synopsis

Once an ambitious storm chaser from Oklahoma, Kate Cooper now lives a life free of storms, haunted by a twister that changed the trajectory of her life. But her old friend, Javi, persuades her to return home to test a new tornado tracking system. There, she clashes with Tyler Owens, a charismatic social media star who chases storms for online clout. As an intense storm season explodes, Kate, Javi, Tyler, and their rival teams are thrust into a desperate fight for survival as devastating twisters rage across Oklahoma.

Twisters is an Enjoyable Film!

Twisters did an excellent job of paying homage to the first film. There are lots of laughs, love, tears, and compassion—and many tornadoes to catch! A special character makes a cameo appearance for fans of the original Twister. This film also does an excellent job of raising the stakes each step of the way. Twisters is a visually stunning and engaging film that draws your attention within the first ten minutes.

The Special Effects Makes the Film Special

The film’s director, Lee Isaac Chung, and special effects supervisor, Scott Fisher, pride themselves and their team on their work to bring the tornadoes to life using special effects. They used two jet engines to simulate the high winds, 10,000-gallon dump tanks, high-pressure pneumatic water cannons for the rain, and a special rubber polymer for the hail. The CGI was the last thing on their mind. Twisters perfectly implemented special effects, which sold the film to me. What else made the film a hit? Glen Powell, that’s for sure!

Star Quality Performances

The star-studded Glen Powell graces the screen as Tyler Owens, the tornado wrangler. His charisma, comedic timing, sublime acting, and good looks brought that extra oomph to Twisters. What’s funny enough is Glen was recently interviewed on a carpet talking about his love for going to see the summer blockbuster hits, only for him to grow up and star in one himself. But Glen’s performance didn’t do all the heavy lifting. Daisy Edgar-Jones played the protagonist well.

Daisy Edgar-Jones portrayed the best version of the protagonist, Kate. She brought the character’s ambition, intelligence, witty banter, and moments of empathy for others to life. I haven’t seen much of Daisy, but this for sure won’t be my last time.

For Your Viewing Pleasure

Twisters wanted to come out the gate as a blockbuster hit and prove to be the perfect standalone sequel, and it did what needed to be done! I highly recommend that you check out the film for yourself. I 2x highly recommend seeing it in IMAX or 4DX for maximum viewing pleasure. Twisters is in theaters now!
