We Can’t All Die First! – The Blackening Movie Review

Imagine this: A Juneteenth jam-packed weekend, seven friends vibing together, and someone lurking in their cabin, and he’s not here for the party. It’s up to these close friends to turn their bond into their biggest strength and outwit what could possibly be the palm-colored killer!

Hello and happy pride month to my gays, guys, and gworls! I haven’t been present and missed a couple of movie reviews (sorry!), but I made sure to give you all one today.

The Blackening isn’t just a horror. It’s a funny ass ride from the first scream to the last laugh! The Black cultural quirks sprinkled all over? Pure. Gold. It’s like sharing an inside joke with the entire cast, making me feel connected to my people. And trust me, even if you think you know who the killer is, when the big reveal hits, it’s gonna leave you GAGGED!

This Black and beautiful cast consists of known names such as Yvonne Orji from insecure, Grace Byers from Harlem, Antoinette Robertson from Dear White People, Dewayne Perkins from The Upshaws, Jermaine Fowler from Coming 2 America, comedian Melvin Gregg, and many more.

After watching, I can confidently say you should go to your local theater and catch a screening. Extra brownie points if you watched it on Juneteenth! Something about the date gives the movie a flavor you just can’t describe, right? This movie deserves a comical yet spooky rating of an 8/10.

Don’t just take my word for it. Scoot over to your local cinema and get ready to be blown away! And if you were one of the lucky ones watching it on Juneteenth, “hey cousin!”
